All of us, especially those of us who put ourselves out there to lead, need a guide and support navigating and learning the opportunities in CTA. As a member, I knew very little about what was available to us in the union. As I became a bargaining chair and a President I found a much larger union community. I pledge to maintain clear, open lines of communication with all members. By keeping you informed and creating opportunities for dialogue, I’ll ensure every educator’s voice is heard and respected. I am dedicated to proactive listening, responding to concerns, and sharing updates that impact us all. I know district D is large, but I am committed to reaching out to all of you - meeting you where you need me to and in the first 3 monthsI will commit to developing structures to be more present and engaged In our locals
I firmly believe in the power and promise of public education and that we need each other to defend it. I will work to help you fight for the resources, support, and respect our educators deserve, both locally and state wide - I will be there to do the work with you while building a foundation that will support you.
In my time as a local leader I have built coalitions to support teachers and students - and I am looking forward to working with your local to do the same - regionally bringing raising standards for all educators. All educators - regardless
Now, I am working to pass AB65, for paid pregnancy leave and to bring the Community School model to more districts. I helped build the platform for the We Can't Wait Campaign and am looking forward to any opportunity I have to make sure educator voices are heard.
In our local union, we voted to stop paying stipends for a variety of positions and instead focus the money from those dues on our members, removing many of the barriers that kept us from including as many people as we could. We want everyone to know that we do union work for each other, not to benefit individuals. Trust is the foundation of a strong union. I am committed to transparent decision-making and accountability, ensuring that union resources and actions align with members’ priorities. I have had the lessons that force the hard conversations and the one on one conversations. I will be there and be accessible for members to voice concerns and also to help them bring solutions.
